Perhaps the root source of most musical dabte?

I fully disclose that I'm somewhat sleep deprived today. For all I know, I could be totally off on this.

Music is
a. a destination
b. a journey

It would seem in my mind that most debates are people who view music as a destination vs. those who view it as a journey. For example, covers vs. originals. Music as a destination: This IS it. Music as a journey: Is this it?

Discuss!

Its fun to do, it feeds your brain, keeps those neurons popping. Its becoming more evident that musiciians that continue to play into there elderly years are less likely to have dementia or alzheimers. So yeah, its good for you. Probably didnt answer your question though, but probably more to the journey side.

I think most debate comes from two musical camps:
  • Do it my way or you are wrong
  • I'll do it my way you do it your way

I'm in the second camp and unfortunately get drawn into dead end discussions with the bone heads that think there is only one way - their way.

If life is a journey, you're always on it.
If life is a destination, you arrive when you leave it.
I prefer my Music Life to be a journey, personally.

More of a journey for me.

But there are those moments--brief rest stops--of having arrived at my destination in some aspect of the musical universe.

I love your quote lfmn16, it pretty much sums up what you just said. I'm more of a journey. I like answers from many people, and using that as part of the equation I come up with my own.

It's both. You can't move without music. No place is worth being without music. It is life. All existance is vibration. All vibration is music.

It's a journey for me, because I'm never going to get there.

There's also that aspect.

I say journey which reaches destinations along the way.You can keep traveling, or revisit the old familiar hangouts. An endless evolution.
