Sign in to disble this ad
i did a search and came up with one finding from 2000. so thought i would ask cause i was curious!
does anyone else name their bass(es). Ive always done it and know a few people who name their guitars... but my cousin thought it was wierd? is it just my friends and i?

I have:
Mo'oh (acoustic)
Kaleb (peavey dyna-bass)
Pauline (carlo robelli [home made fretless])
Melissa (ibanez semi-hollow)
and
Blue (an old squier)

Say it loud and say it proud! I have three basses and their names are: Precious, Luvvy, and Sweetums. And yes, I'm quite normal.

My p bass was named Veronica after my girlfriend at the time... it deserves a better name but renaming it would be like renaming your 3 year old child

My red strat was affectionately named blue when i bought it as a boy. I havent named anything else yet

Mary Anne is my ol' reliable P bass. Not named after anyone, that just what she told me her name was.

Lisa Marie is my blue SX P that used to back up to the Precision, but now is my main gigging bass. Named after a little trouble maker from Brooklyn who said I should name it after her!

The other basses remain nameless.

Guitars get numbers mostly,
Number one 1989 Telecaster
'Ol number one '82 G&L S 500
Number Two parts Telecaster from various years AKA Bastardcaster, Yellowcaster.
Number 3 Custom built hollow body Telecaster
Etc. etc/

Started off with Molly, my first bass, an Ibanez SR400, after my girlfriend at the time. Then my SR645 I got down the road was Beth, same story. Then Louise, my acoustic guitar came along. Got my Stingray and that was just plain Ernie. I told my most recent girlfriend that my upright was named Charlotte after her, but I don't talk to her anymore and I still like my bass.

My musical instruments are nothing but an awful timeline of dead relationships.

My Squier is just my Squier.

My Fender Jazz is the Harmonster, because it is a Harmonic Monster. Literally, can do perfect harmonics anywhere on the neck.

My Ibanez SR506 is Sixy McGee.

I don't name inanimate objects. I mean, what's the point?? They don't come when I call them. And they don't answer me when I talk to them.

With that said, one of my basses does have a name, given to it by the guys that made it (Roscoe)--my SKB3006 is known as "the Brain", after the way the topwood looks.

Stambaugh 6: The Most Beautiful Bass Of All Time
Stambaugh fretless 7: Grace
Fender Jazz 5: Cinderella(I put a small sticker of her on the headstock. That's right, me. NOT my 4 year old daughter).
I had another Stammie, a fretless 4. I called it 'Skinny' for how it looked next to its freeway-necked freak younger siblings. TBer Winston has it now.
