That's unfortunate, the guy has some talent.

Like Sir Paul on bass, and Eric Clapton on guitar, you might say he has some talent.

Wow. Hugely talented, very underrated drummer. His work with Genesis was amazing.

Personally his best work was with Brand X, I mean seriously that was drumming. IMHO of course.

I always thought it was weird the way he would lean when he played, i guess bad form can shorten a career but he has had a lot of success.

What a shame. Phil is an awesome drummer. Massive stuff w Brand X and early Genesis.

It's hell to get old sometimes, and drums can really beat up your body after all those years.

As a slight OT, I was hired to play bass at a Chester Thompson clinic quite a few years ago. I was VERY nervous (I was just a kid at the time), and he was SO nice. I'll never forget it. He was one of those rare great players who, even though he was 100 miles above my playing level at the time, made me feel very comfortable, and resulted in me actually playing better (versus vibing and picking on players who are not at that level). VERY cool cat!

I can see why Phil digs Chester so much.

Did you ever hear Phil Collins playing fusion music with Brand X?

Phil Collins did lots of projects that were musical departures from Genesis where you can see his versatility.

Unfortunate. Although I hate his solo music, he's still a percussion talent.

Yes! I love playing "Nuclear Burn" for people and ask them, "Who do you think is drumming?" They can't believe it's Phil because many equate him with being a mega popstar singer.

Like his drumming or not, it's sad when someone can no longer do something they love to do.

But this is not the end of his music career, as Collins told fans: 'Don't worry, I can still sing.'
Oh, good.

It must be tough to come to grips with. Imagine if your doctor told you you could never play bass again and it's too painful to even pick up your bass. That would be hard to swallow.

"Collins reveals the damage was a result of his poor drumming posture during Genesis' 2007 World Tour, which caused his vertebrae to crush his spinal cord."

Note to self: Tell my drummer to sit up straight.
