I'm still not sure what to make of all this, but I'm receiving an award for Bassist of the Year at the Phoenix Music Awards tomorrow night
They're put on by the same producer (Al Bowman) who does the LA Music Awards and other similar events nationwide. My church's worship team started
recording our demo earlier this year, and we'll be headed into the studio to record the release version soon. Al Bowman caught wind of this, came out
to our church, met us and our pastor, and liked what he saw and heard. He's been looking to promote more Christian acts, and put our church's team up
for a couple of LA Music Awards in October.
In the midst of all this, he nominated myself and one of our guitarists for awards in Phoenix, and we won. It doesn't quite seem real yet, since from my
perspective all I did was show up and play bass wherever and whenever my church asked. But hey, somebody likes what I do, I'll take it! I had given up
on a music career when I moved away from San Francisco, and God has continued to amaze me with the doors He's opened up since my family moved to Yuma
and started serving Him.
There are going to be a lot of great local and national acts there performing and receiving awards, and I'm excited to be included in it al. I'm also
excited to be on the bill at the LA awards with my worship team, and to be able to increase our church's profile and give wider audience to our pastor's
message.
Anyway, if any of you in the Phoenix area can make it out to see some great performances, and some local talent recognized, I'd love to meet you in
person.
