Exclamation The Pick Player's Elite (finger stylists, why don't you sit this one out)

Sign in to disble this ad
(If this has already been done, don't call me a nOOb. I could have easily searched the records but it's much easier to just have the die hard talkbass members inform me by being literarily assaulted.) lol j/p guys, don't hurt me...

Anyway, I'm a damn proud pick player. I started playing bass 5 years ago and have been using a pick on and off for different songs since then, which doesn't bother me at all. Even though I think using my fingers is more fun... ( lmao) I can enjoy the song more if I can actually play it note for note with no errors.

I use picks for songs I can't well enough with my fingers, plain and simple. Honestly, how important is learning how to pluck wicked fast to some of you finger guys? I guess if your Cliff and am just an incredible friggin player its cool to spend time learning how to play fast but other than that, what's the purpose?

By all this I mean which sounds better?: When a player TRIES to keep by up by using their fingers to get a sweeter tone or, someone who can keep up but sacrifices tone by using a pick. I think the answer is obvious, but not to point any fingers but I think there are some posers out there that don't understand what playing an instrument is all about, playing music.

So yea, if you think what I said makes sense and you wanna be bad ass like me, join my club: The Pick Player's Elite. Message me or just leave a reply for a sweet signiture like mine, only less cool because you wont be number one, sorry.

LOL, this is a thread for pick players, finger players apparently not welcome, yet you do your best to make up all kinds of excuses as to why you're too lazy to work on using your fingers for fast lines.

Why is it important to play "wicked fast" with my fingers? Because thats how it sounds good for some songs, period.

If you're not interested in learning that, its all good, you can play with a pick, noone will question your choice. But dont come telling us players who work our asses off learning to play fast lines using our fingers (not Cliff Burton lines, theyre easy to play fast fingerstyle, I'm thinking more Rocco Prestia right now) that what we're doing holds no purpose.

Ok dude, don't judge me. You don't knowe me, so don't judge me. For me, finger picking is like learning how to play double bass on drums. It's not eccencial, but should be learned eventually. Did you read the intro? said I've only been playing for 5 years, I'm no expert yet. All I'm saying is that I think pick players need some respect. So, please just make sure you understand what I'm saying before you go and knock my club, you Jedi scum.

First off, I've been playing for a year and a half. So yes, you're just lazy.

Second off, I'm not knocking your club. You're the one disrespecting the people who put lots of work into figuring out how to play fast lines fingerstyle. Dont turn this all the way around.

I respect pick players plenty, but when you tell me there is no point in learning fast lines fingerstyle because its easier with a pick, dont expect me not to roll my eyes.

See, thats real funny. When you didnt know how long I had been playing you assumed I had been playing much longer than you, and required I give you proper respect for having played less. Now that you find out I've been playing less than you, you give me no respect whatsoever.

5 yrs of practice, and no clue whatsoever. What a wannabe you are.

Well the funny thing is, I can play fast with my fingers I just choose not to. I think it sounds like **** and bothers my hand after a while. Have you played a show yet? Once you play a one hour set with no breaks, let me know how your precious little fingers feel after that. I'm past the point of thinking that I'm the best bass player ever and have admitted that I'll probably never be as "famous" as you so there's really no need for you to argue with me. I know exactly what your going to say and its just not worth it nOOOOb.

LOL. I just love how with every post you make yourself look more and more like a wannabe.

I've played hour long shows, I've played 3 hour long rehearsals, fingerstyle, fast lines, no problem. All it takes is practice until you can relax your right hand while playing fast, which in 5 yrs of practice you obviously havent understood yet.

wannabe.
So Jason Newsted's a wannabe? Geddy Lee's a wannabe? I can play basically anything up to like Paranoid by Sabbath with my fingers all the way through without needing hand surgery BTW. I'm talking metal my friend, you know what metal is?

Soooaaahhhh, do you lack the skills to make fingerstyle sound good, or are you just too lazy to practice? And I think it's safe to say I've been playing longer than you've been alive. If not, at least I've got my 13,000+ posts going for me.

FWIW, in my first band, back in the late '70's I played mostly with a pick. I just don't find it versatile enough. I still play with a pick when appropriate.

So much to say, so little bandwidth.

Carrots!

Umm, Geddy Lee has never used a pick to play bass. When he wants a more pick-like tone he uses his fingernails. This is well documented.

Lol thanks munji and yes I originally said not to open the thread but it doesn't bother me to take a little abuse from you guys. Now as I was saying, yes in all honesty I think I lack the art of being able to play fast for a long spand of time, maybe because I only use 2 fingers, three is just way too much for my little hand to handle.... (lmao XD.) Does that answer your question?
