Pickup Research Overdose

Does anyone here ever get to the point where you've read so much about pu's or amps or whatever, that you just say %*#^ it. I'll keep what I have already. It seems some great bass players tone or sound is the same all the time, their not going for a variety of sounds. Where do I come up with that the equipment is so important. I've answered these questions to myself, just thought it would be fun to hear some comments.
