a picture may be worth a thousand words, but how much is a sound worth?

a million?

i recently read an article in tape op (a few months ago in the editor rant) about using words to describe sounds, but what do words like "warm" and "bright" really mean? if you had to describe your sound and tone, what words would you use? what words would you use to describe some of the more popular bassists' sounds too?

i'd call my tone clean, clear, and focused while still being thick. i wish my tone was warmer, but i think what i call warm, is not what most people call warm. i think of warm as round.

Most of my playing is R+B, jazz and theater pit. I'm always trying for a sound that is round and warm. I've pretty much happy with what I've got now. My keyboard player calls my tone "manly". I like that, but its not the word I would use.

If I need something with punch, my Rickenbacker is waiting for me.
