I don't know, it's certainly better than the pig squeals some bands do.

But who really listens to Death Metal for the vocals, anyway?

You'd be surprised.
So why have a vocalist anyway?

nah, never been much of a deicide fan. I'm talking about bands like cattle decapitiation, gut, cock and ball torture (yes, they exist), ghoul, and regurgitate; all these bands periodically use/used super low freq pitch shifter effects on their vox for heaviness, etc.

I'm not much of a fan for pitch-shifted vocals nor am I a big fan of Cattle Decapitation, but on a slightly off-topic note, I saw Cattle Decapitation on the Summer Slaughter tour and was impressed with their vocalist's ability to scream.

"to serve man" is the big favorite of mine, but I gotta admit, on "humanure" there's some pretty sick **** going on in the vocals as far as just one guy putting together so many diminished sounding harmonies from one voice (even if it is just aided by effect I have to give him credit on velocity)

Can you post recordings? Youtube/myspace?

I know Death metal is a very snobby genre: If a vocalist uses distortion, he's instantly a fake and should be burned, so I'm sure pitch shifting is frowned upon. I never got the "super low" vocals: Well, I take that back, I like super doomy (funeral doom type) bands with lower than low vocals. In death metal, they just seem to get lost.

That seems really silly, since they apparently have no such problem with using distortion and effects on guitars, reverb on drums, etc. If vocal effects sound good, why not use them?

Well, first off I'm more than down with DM vocals. I envy those who can do them. But I think the vocals in all the videos you posted are pretty comical. (Ignoring the funny videos... but acknowledging them as hilarious)

If there goal is to be funny, sweet. In that respect, I dig it. This happens a lot in the Black Metal stuff I listen to where I find a comical and musical appeal at the same time. And really, what "old school" death metal fan can't love Macabre! The Dahmer album cracks me up and rocks my face to death at the same time.

So, now I feel I can vote: not lame.

Thanks for the enlightenment cock and ball torture....

i just think unrealistic pitch shifting is awesome because like the entire genre is based around sort of being beyond human and beyond the grave lol. i want to hear something that sounds like it'll just swallow you whole

Most of the time, I just find vocals to be an annoyance.

Viva la instrumental.
