Played with an eDrummer...a Dream Come True!!

As the title says, tonight I jammed with an eDrummer via his 6-channel mixing board, computer and headphone amp. Everything was great! I could hear everything really well and the drums sounded like, y'know, drums! I think we could have a rough demo out of the whole thing too! Best thing was his wife and kids were upstairs working (computer) and sleeping, respectively! This is the thing, man! We could take this setup to a gig, have zero stage volume, the FOH could be blasting the room, and we would still be able to hear each other and ourselves! This is the way to do it! I might consider a Buttkicker, so I can have the physical thump, but otherwise I was thrilled with everything. Just thought I'd share. Seek out an eDrummer, you won't regret it!

Hi.

I've been planning to buy a cheapo beginners set just to get our drummer to try just that. The drummer is a heavy hitter and sometimes he's just too loud for the occasion.

The good e-drums are far too expensive for my (our) needs and the drummer just bought a really nice brand spanking new Tama shell set and the cases too so he won't be buying any sets in the near future.

I sometimes miss the Pearl World double BD set I had as a kid even though I never learned to play that well.

The problem I see with the e-drums is that there's the below 500€ POS and above 2000€ pro sets and really nothing in between. At least not used .

A word of warning to all the folks who have never played live with an eDrummer before and are thinking to go that route with their band. Be prepared to have about 1kW PA addition to the current one for the small/medium venues and about 5kW more for the larger ones. And I mean REAL watts and a REAL PA, especially the subs . If You don't use in-ears, the wedges will have to be quite a bit beefier too.

So in all, my simple calculations have made the e-route twice as expensive as the trad. route . I think it's definately worth it though, don't get me wrong.

Regards
Sam

Well, there is always a certain monetary investment involved in starting a new project. And really, if this was going to be my main thing, then I'd be willing to throw in on a more powerful PA. With the headphone amp and mixer already in play, all we'd really need is subs and another top (I already have a Carvin LS1503A). Anything bigger and I'd expect us to have a label or some sort of financial backing to pay for a 1mW PA. Also, you have to consider the fact that there's no need to sink a ton of cash into a backline, so that money can be reallocated to the PA. The trade off of convenience and manageable volume more than make up for the cost, IMO, but I do hear what you're saying.
