Played my first upright bass today!

I was doing a sit-in with a band today and I got a suprise when their bassist (a good friend of mine) brought not only his usual bass (a Fender J-bass) but also an upright.

I didn't know he played, and during a break I asked for a go. He said OK, on the condition I didn't adjust the endpin or anything and played quietly.

Uprights are AMAZING! Once I'd had a tinker around to find the right positions to fret, I actually managed to get something approaching a tune out of it. The German bow was a bit weird though...I'm used to French.

I want an upright bass sooooooo badly!

If you're going to play one often, look up my thread on how to tape your fingertips. Very important to prevent blisters.

I agree about German bows - I always liked the French style bow better.
