Playing with blisters

Sign in to disble this ad
Quick story-

I played a three hour bar gig last weekend after my band had been taking a month-long break. I'd been practicing some in the meantime, but slacking some too, so my index and middle finger both ended up getting pretty big blisters where I play. Now I've got another show this wednesday and while my fingers are healing pretty well, they're still at that point where they could tear back open. The show tomorrow is a two hour thing, so I'd like to make it all the way through with as little discomfort as possible.

Anybody got any ideas on getting through a show with preexisting blisters without altering my tone too much?

had a similar situation last year - I used this stuff it's like a self adhesive ace bandage (though no actual "sticky" stuff) and it got me through the night. wasn't the best so I'd try the super glue method first . . . my blister had not healed over at all and was raw (TMI ) and this dulled the pain right up, was just awkward to play w/

This is when it is good to know how to use a pick. Really.

Just don't touch your fingers together until it's good and dry.

Don't ask why I know that.

Use mole skin. It's not actually made of mole skin. One side is sticky and the other side is soft. It doesn't take that much out of the sound but it sure gets rid of blisters. If you put it on when the blister is fresh it goes away in 2 or 3 days. In your case it should be gone before your gig(this thought is based on the fact that it gets rid of blisters in a couple of days when they're new).

Uhhhh, yeah, went ahead and dipped my fingertips in superglue and it did nothing. Came off three songs in to our 20 song set. Here's the result of superglue-

Yeah, I know how to pick, but I never practice with it so I felt like my timing would've been off.

At the end of the day, I figure screw it, the best option is to play through the pain.
