Please help me with this tone...

Sorry if this is the wrong place for this thread...

I am looking for a certain tone that I cannot seem to get out of my rig. I play a Warwick Rockbass 4 string through an ampeg svt-cl with an 810 cab.

This sound I am looking for could be described as "growl" - but clean? A good example would be in the Incubus song - Pardon me - in the verse, you can hear it. Its sort of like that clean growl you can get from slapping the low strings, but it doesn't appear he is slapping here.

So I am not sure if the reason I cannot duplicate this sound is the rockbass, the ampeg head, strings, EQ, style...I don't know what it is.

Please help me figure out what I am missing here? Thanks!

I actually did go through the trouble of finding that song (links, please)...

thatīs a case of classic "all heavy exotic hardwoods" warwick growl with appropriately fresh strings... I highly doubt youīd be able to mimic that with a rockbass.

closest you can get with fresh strings, plucking heavily over bridge p/u and slightly boosting low mids on your amp.

So are you suggesting a Warwick is the only bass to achieve this sound?

no. merely suggesting that the sound could be impossible to achieve with a rockbass. a thumb or a streamer stage II would get you there easier... some basses donīt just get certain sounds...
