Unhappy Polka is more popular than jazz I guess

So my six piece jazz combo was supposed to play at a church festival in September. Two 45 minute sets for $500. The other two sets were to be played by a polka band. Turns out that they say it isn't fair to either band to have share the limited space so we won't be playing at all....

This kinda sucks a lot.

Maybe now I have a reason to learn how to play my accordion.

When I went to UW-Eau Claire (Wisconsin) as a music major, we all scuffled at jazz gigs around town... all of us except a few smart guys who formed the most kicka$$ polka band you've ever heard, called the Frank Kinayski Band (nobody by that name in the band, BTW). They worked constantly and made scads of money.

I played a gig a few weeks ago, an hour north of Madison. You know it's Polka country when even the teenagers dance the Polka, and know the words to all of the tunes.

Pulaski Days Festival? I played that several years ago with my former band.

Polka is only awesome when beer and bratwurst is involved, in a festival setting like that, I can get down with the vibe. But I'm not going to pop in a polka album when I'm at home chillaxin'. Weird Al included.
