Polyfoam for Airline/Flight???

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm looking into one of these for airline travel:

Kaces Boutique
Wolfpack
MBT

I had a friend a while back take his acoustic in one of these, CHECKED IN. When we both got to Germany, surprisingly it was unharmed.

I don't know if I should risk it because when I come back to the States from Germany, I plan on bringing my bass from the States back to Germany. What do you guys think? I can't find anywhere in the States to buy a Hiscox case. (those look awesome, but I can't find them anywhere)

I've logged millions of miles with gear... never had any thing happen worth complaining about... that said there are a few tips to check them in for success.

IF this is just a one time thing.. (assuming it's a bolt on neck).. you can unbolt your bass and prep it for carry on.

I own a poly foam case - this is not one of the cases I'd be travelling with.

There are plenty of empirical stories about people successfully checking their basses in soft (or semi-soft) cases with no ill effect, but there are just as many if not more horror stories about equipment that got damaged even when it was in a super heavy-duty ATA spec hardshell flight case.

So it's really a question of chance: Do Ya Feel Lucky?

Shoot, it's a risk and I can't decide. I have until January to decide, and I'm kinda hesitant after reading all of the horror stories here on TB.

Hardshell, Polyfoam, or Hiscox...
