"Portastudio" question!

Hi there!

I used to have a Tascam 4-track "Portastudio 244" which I don't have anymore now, but I've still got all its tapes. That "244" is really hard to come by here in NZ, so I was thinking of maybe getting one of the cheaper Tascam 4-track recorders instead.

So now my question would be: Does anyone here know if my old tapes would be compatible with any of those newer machines? I'm a bit worried about different speeds and tracking.

I had written to Tascam's help team but never got a reply, so it'd be great to find answers here!

Any tape recorded with a 4-track should work with any old or new 4-track machine. I don't think that the speed(s) of recording has changed, and any decent machine should have a knob to micro-adjust the speed to match tuning, etc.
