so my one friend is making a band and he needs a bassist. so i think to myself well its gonna be me. well he gets his one friend to "play" bass for his band instead. the only problem is this kid cant play bass at all. and at the time when then initiated him into the band he never touched/played/owned a bass. So im like oh cool thanks for not getting me. we are all really good friends so i dont want to be like ***! gtfo. so recording comes around and i come over to help. their bassist does a horrible job. the next day i come back over to my friends house because he wanted to re-record over the bass part. so he borrows my bass and does it. and my two friends (its a three piece) always complain that he sucks at bass and cant keep time. what should i do cause im tired of this ****.

| | | | You don't need to do anything. You're not in the band, so just stay out of the band. Why did you go to the recording session - what does "help" mean in this context?
Let them run their band. Let them make their mistakes. Don't try and help. If/When they figure out they're not getting anywhere maybe they'll ask for help, but so far they've decided to do their own thing.
That's not to say you should stop being friends. Just don't hang with them when they're being a "band". |

Talk to your two friends how you feel about their band.
Do you want to be in that band?
If not, find another band that can use you as a decent bassist.
And show your friend that they made a foolish decision.
They'll see the light soon if the other guy is that bad. |

It begins with, "It's nothing personal, but..." and go from there. If they are unable to understand your side of the story, they aren't really that great of friends.

Having the most tallent doesn't always equal being the best band mate, or make you the best person for the job.
One of the most talented players I ever had the pleasure, (and displeasure) of playing with, was VERY dificult to work with. Personalities have as much to do with playing in a band as tallent does. Hell, I'm still VERY good friends with they guy mentioned above, but I really don't see myself playing in a band again with him any time soon.
Make any sense?
Were you asked to "come over and help" with the recording?
There may be a very good reason they didn't ask you to be in the band.
Just something to consider. |

Maybe they're not as good of friends as you think they are. |

I can think of 2 reasons why- without knowing you, or presuming to know anything about you- but just based on why I haven't included "friends" in projects- either they have a bad attitude or they're... 'not proficient' enough.
