Possible Sydney Stick/Bass Tapping seminar...

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi folks,

For a few months now, I've been trying to organise the first ever Chapman Stick teaching seminar in Australia and have been talking to a number of great Stick players in the U.S about what's required. (Greg Howard, Steve Adelson, Don Schiff and finally, Bob Culbertson.) I'm very happy to confirmn that Bob has agreed to come out to Sydney and run a seminar on November 10/11, 2007. He's also planning on a trip to New Zealand, to play a gig or two and do some sight-seeing, details to be confirmed soon.

I still have to talk to Bob more about the format of the seminar, but there's typically two days of training, a jam/social night and a number of gigs to go along to. Because we know there aren't all that many Stick players in the country, we're leaving the seminar open to tappers of any sort, as a lot of the techniques translate well to any tapping instrument. We're hoping to keep the seminar fees to around AU$200-250, which is incredibly cheap for two days teaching from a world-class musician and teacher!!!

So, if you happen to live in Australia or New Zealand and own a Stick or other specialised tapping instrument, please let me know! Either PM me or email me at evilstickplayer@gmail.com.

And I'd also like to hear from anyone that has good venue contacts for instrumental gigs, especially places like The Basement in Sydney.

Anyway, happy to hear ideas, opinions, advice, support, anything constructive.

Cheers,

Justin

Another option is for Bob Culbertson to run the seminar on November 10/11, he has more of a rock/prog-rock/fusion/classical background. Should know one way or another in the next week or two.

Cheers,

Justin

Sydney Stick/Tapping seminar!

Bob Culbertson is definitely running the seminar on Nov 10/11 2007, will cover beginners to advanced. Will be a gig or two and a jam night around that time. Seminar is open to anyone that taps a stringed instrument, be it Stick, bass, guitar, or a custom tapping instrument like Warr, ADG, Megatar, Box, etc. Already have around a dozen people interested from all around the country, but more would be great.

Cheers,

EG
