Post your "track of the week"

Sign in to disble this ad
I remember a good friend of mine from a few years back now telling me about his "track of the week", every week. The thread about your ONE all-time favourite song reminded me that there's probably no such thing for most of us, right? But we all have a track of the week, perhaps.

What's your number one favourite track, just this week?

Bump - 'cos no love.

Come on guys, I need some suggestions for expanding my collection. I've just got into buying downloads from Amazon and I really should be getting me some new music.

Track of the week last week for me was definitely "What Is Hip" by Tower of Power (had to nail it for a gig), but this week it's probably been "Wack Wack" by Buddy Rich. Older school big band stuff, but I'd call it pretty funky jazz (whereas the ToP stuff I'd class as just slightly jazzy funk). So, recommend me some stuff.

"You Won't Relent" by Misty Edwards.

Probably not your cup of tea, and I wouldn't have chosen it either, but I had to learn it for one of my gigs and now I can't get it out of my head. Nice opening with the 6-string bass, though, and a lot more of an interesting bass line than most of what I play at church.

Steve Coleman, Drop Kick.

The whole album is great IMHO. It's a free download on the M-Base website too.

tempus fugit by yes. lord only used to perform this song live a lot (one of the only covers we ever did, along with break on through by the doors) and we used to kick its butt, tbqh . had a few folks tell us we did it better than yes did live (they only played it for the drama tour).

been listening to it a lot lately, love the whole drama album.

Every day this week, I've listened to Alice In Chains - Down In A Hole so that would be my choice.

Good stuff.I really like Trevor Horn's fretless bass on "Run Thru the Light".

FYI John:They did been play "Tempus Fugit" and "Machine Messiah" on their most recent American tour.I guess they can do that now without Jon in the band. There are some decent clips on Youtube from that tour.

Which is good.I didn't get to go.

yeah, after i posted i remembered that - saw them with my drummer in atlanta. was a great show.

it was funny too, my drummer and i both shared a small chuckle during tempus fugit - they sorta got wonky on the same parts of the song that used to give us problems too (some of the transition stuff between sections has some really tricky, cool time sig things going on). it being their song, they were, of course, allowed.

I love that song, never played it live at church, but the intro is fun to mess around with.

For me it is "Four Word Letter" by mewithoutYou, mainly the one off of their demo "I never Said I was brave", but the version off of "catch for us the foxes" has a great vocal solo on it.

Hmm. Got to say Hasten Jason - Cornmeal

A great jam influenced bluegrass band.

There's some great suggestions here, thanks very much. Too many to respond to all of them, but... JT, +1 on the Drama thing. Very under-rated album.

That Brubeck track is very cool, too - ta! Joe Morello REALLY swings even in 5/4. He should probably have had a quiet word with this guy...

I was listening to some of the 'obscurer' Motown stuff yesterday - take a listen to PIECES OF A MAN from David Ruffin's "My Whole World ENded" album. Fantastic Jamerson line....
