The other day i finaly payed off the bill for my new bass gear, A nice new cab, head and dunlop wah, kind-of an early christmas present if you will. So i payed the money at the right time so that the gear would arive (By delivery from far away) on time. This is because my drummer is coming down so that the band can jam and hopefuly record this time.
HOWEVER.
Whilst tracking my package on the internet it says that the item has been shipped to the wrong depot.
And they give you no information as to what the hell that means!
I even called and the lady said ring back in a few hours.
Grrrrrrrr.
Anyone had experiences like this with shipping?
They would have been better off strapping the gear to a flock of messenger pidgeons.
Thanks guys

Oh yeah, an African swallow, maybe, but not a European swallow. That's my point.
But then the African swallow's not migratory...

Monty python references AND bass guitars, What more could you want.
The only postal service I've had problems with has been ANC, bad bad bad. Lost packages twice on one order (The second one being a resend!)

But then the African swallow's not migratory... | At some point we'll have to discuss the question of where they grip it since they obviously can't grip the husk in this situation.

So one more day to get it back to Cerritos, CA and I spoke with the customer service rep and said..."lady don't even put that thing on a truck to deliver it to me, I'll just pick it up" and due to all the problems they said fine just come down and claim it...needless to say it was 7+ days of hell....bad UPS bad UPS!

However...the worst thing if shipping FedEx Ground is for the label to come off. They pick up all the label-less packages and ship them by truck to Salt Lake City, UT before they try to figure out what the heck it is. I've been told it could take weeks to complete the cycle. I learned this after an amp that was shipped to me from Hartford never made it out of the terminal...I suspect that someone out there has a nice Woodson amp. The seller did get a refund and so did I.

BOB | Youtube has quite a few "insider" videos of package abuse.

For the most part that company is a GREAT OUTFIT and a fantastic place to work. They do everything possible to get the job done and done on time. I do have a few stories however.
The first one was my airline tickets to training as a new hire were lost and shipped to God only knows where before getting redirected and arrived just in the nick of time to get on the plane.
I was flying a Fokker 27, it is a 50 seat airliner 46,000# twin turboprop. I was the first officer at the time. I'm sitting in the cockpit (at Memphis) doing the weight and balance while the ground crew was busy loading the plane. This sized aircraft was hand loaded with a belt loader and then distributed to various ZONES in the plane and then netted down by ground crew.
The second to the rear zone was being loaded and I started hearing thunk slide noises from the cabin. After about 5 of these I had a pretty good idea of what was going on so I went aft to check out the deal before something got really BTS...
So here is a guy at the top of the belt loader taking brand new Compaq laptops off the loader and pitching them about 30 feet down the cabin with them landing about 1/2 way down the A/C, they would then slide another 20 feet or so until his sidekick would pick them up and stack them.
I went back, had the loader stop and chewed ass for about 5 minutes. Which included these boxes contain $3000 each brand new computers, where's your supervisor and if you EVER DO ANYTHNING LIKE THIS EVER AGAIN, your next job will include "do you want some catsup with your fries?"
Like good minions they saluted all the bars, said yes sir sorry sir and went back to work.... Needless to say, I completed their training and explained how to walk from the front of the cabin to the rear and how they COULD meet in the middle to transfer boxes...
I hope those guys never did that again. If a super would have been around I'm sure they would have gotten the same drilling and had to repeat the training class before getting to work again as the company is VERY PARTICULAR as far as freight handling goes.
The last for this email, I walked into the LOST FREIGHT ROOM once. It was a no mans land as big as you could see with endless boxes that lables were torn off.
If an item makes it here it is gone forever. FedEX has the best insurance payout policy of all the shipping companies for items under $1500.
I never regretted working there a single day. BOB

All the others are more accurately called parcel delivery services.
And they all suck at one time or another.
I'm just sayin'.

Yes - I remember seeing an international package shipping hub - so parcels would go along on a raised moving belt and then drop down a chute to the right place for dispatching.
Trouble was - when a fragile item sat at the bottom of the chute and then something like a washing machine would come flying down and hit it at great speed!!
Well you can imagine what happned to the package at the bottom of the chute!!
This is why I would never buy a large or fragile item mail order - so I want to walk out of the shop with the bass under my arm, knowing I've tried it and it's intact!!
