Just a note to all you Mahavishnu Orchestra fans

I just received a copy of this book (Power,Passion and Beauty) which is a history of the band. It has contributions from band members and other musicians of the time as well as narrative by the author and IMO is a fascinating read . A must have for all MO fans I think.

Does it mention Tony Levin was almost a member? Apparently John McLaughlin called him...he wasn't in; in inlaws were there to answer the phone; he got the message that "Murray Vishnu" wanted him to join his orchestra!
He turned it down...(what if???)

Yeah it mentions the whole episode.

He did get the message as you said but he did eventually talk to John McLaughlin. In the end he turned down the MO gig as he was keen to continue in the band he was in at the time. C'est la vie

That has to be my favorite story from Tony's book.
