Pressing Vinyl

Band number one is about to enter the mastering phase of the recording process and we're thinking we might want to do a limited vinyl run of the release. We've found a few places for getting records pressed but if you have any recommendations for quality printing/pressing, or a place that you found that was reasonably priced, we'd sure appreciate it if you can pass along a name or a link. Thanks!

Why would you want to ruin a nice mastering job by putting it on vinyl? Why not cassette and 8 track while your at it? Older has to be better right?

My apologies, I couldn't help myself.

You may be having a slight dig, but you're on to a pet peeve of mine. Firstly, I'm a big fan of vinyl, the big artwork, the putting the record on the turntable, the flipping it, the few seconds of hiss before your record starts, the sound, I love it all.

However, digital recordings that are just thrown to the pressing plant for vinyl pressing along with CD pressing are a half-assed job. The two formats have different aural nuances and that should be reflected on how the mastering is done. Recordings mastered for CD and then just thrown onto vinyl to hit the collectors/hipster market sound much, much worse than recordings mastered specifically for a vinyl release.

#1! You need to master for the format. I'm an old geezer, part of a generation that got to experience the age of analog
in all of it's glory, but mastering for the format intended, is an art unto itself.
