| My girlfriend is into them, and thus I've actually seen them live... they were surprisingly talented and entertaining (even Taylor), and I am not even vaguely interested in their style of music.
I'm not sure about what you mean by "being taken seriously" though, I guess it depends on the context. They played to maybe 400 kids in a run down all ages venue for like $15 or so a pop, but they had a full on tour bus and acted like they were playing stadiums the whole time.
After picking the GF's brain, apparently Taylor Momsen wrote most of the songs, with help from the guitarist on a few of them. In interviews she says that she considers the group to be an actual band and not Taylor Momsen + Hired Guns.
