Prince, at the Forum

Last night, Saturday, April 23, I saw Prince at the Forum in L.A. Part of his 21 night stand. Prince was awesome, his voice, his playing, his moves, his band, all spectacular.

But I expected all that, and I wasn't disappointed. What I didn't expect, and what totally blew my mind, was seeing/hearing Larry Graham. He came out early in the show, and they played Everyday People, and Thank You For lettin Me, Be Mice Elf, that included a bass solo. OMG, Mr. Graham totally fulfills his legend status. He is a total, bass bad ass.

The other thing that surprised me, was that after the third encore, when the house lights went up, more than half the 5000 in attendance stayed, and made it clear that we wanted more. And they came back, for a blistering 4th encore. As Prince said, it wast the best place to be on earth last night, the Purple party.

Larry Graham has been his spiritual mentor for years. For an opening night would not be to surprising for him to be there. He seems to show up on all the Prince concerts that make it to DVD. For every show it might be surprising.
