Has anyone ever had a band professionally recorded?

Was it very expensive?

a) Depends on what you consider expensive

b) Depends on what you need recorded, how prepared you are to record it, what quality you want it recorded at, etc.

So, the answer is, yes, potentially.

Our last recording session was in a professional studio, using professional equipment, but we got a massive discount by doing it with a an intern behind the boards after a pro had set everything up for him. Saved us hundreds for the day.

Yes,

Most albums made by labels are anywhere between $30,000 to $100,000 easily.

Also depends on the band and the songs. Hence why labels will have a "studio band" and a live band.

If you have no budget the best approach is too.

Pay a studio to track live Drums. Have a member of the band or a cheap engineer get all of the DI's of the guitars and bass, etc. Pay someone to record the vocals.
Then spend the money on mix and master. The mIx engineer should be able to reamp the guitars and bass.

Then you are looking at $10,000 to $20,000 for a "real" recording.
