Thumbs down Prompters on stage

Hi guys!

First I saw Brian Wilson use them. Then New Order. Geddy obviously needs them, too. And just before, I was watching the "Live 8" DVD, and I saw ol' Sting having one as well (even though he was playing some of his biggest "Police" hits one would think he'd know by heart!) - I'm talking about prompters! You know, computer screens with the song lyrics on them. Not very professional, in my opinion. What's yours?

Even the best actors in Hollywood forget their lines and need script reads mid-scene- musicians don't get a chance to stop the show to read the lyrics, so prompters are a good way to keep playing with the assurance that they won't forget a line. Sting's written hundreds of songs- memorizing them all probably isn't possible, and he hasn't been regularly playing Police songs for twenty years now.

at our church we had a prompter showing what the congregation get on the projector. i.e the words. the singers all stood staring at it while singing, we took it away and suddenly theres a lot more energy on stage
