Protection...iGig, Mono and Reunion Blues

So I have been studying these soft cases, as I am thinking of these instead of the custom ATA case made by the local company. As a result, I am looking for experiences, especially those that compare them.

I know the Mono is waterproof, and I have seen the RB video of them throwing the case off the roof. The iGig looks to have a metric ton of storage. Those seem to be the most marked differences. Past that, please give me your opinion.

Thanks,
Ted

Throw Access into your roundup as well. Here's a simple breakdown (I won't include Reunion Blues because I have no experience with their bags).

iGig G515

-LOTS of storage
-Handles all over / lots of carrying options
-VERY well padded
-On the heavier side

Access Stage 5

-LOTS of storage
-Rigid
-Very light
-Well padded
-Handles all over / lots of carrying options

Mono M80

-VERY light
-Well padded

Does the Igig 515 have this in it?

I can't seem to find it referenced in any of the videos

Happy to help, and yes the G515 does have that in it. They call it the "Gig pillow". Funny name but it does exactly what you'd expect it to -- protect the top of your basses .

The issue with my Acacia is that the body is smaller and concave, so it tends to slide around in the case. I am thinking this will work nicely to keep the bass from sliding around.

Thanks again for the input.

I agree with what Kwesi said about IGIG.

iGig G515

-LOTS of storage
-Handles all over / lots of carrying options
-VERY well padded
-On the heavier side

* there's YouTube vids on IGIG.*

I like the one I got for a birthday present last year.
Kwesi seems to have a lot together for a young guy.

Downside to M80 dual - lack of storage pockets. It has two of them, but they don't hold squat. I'm close to looking at another solution as I have some "thick" basses and that makes the storage pocket even tighter. I can maybe slip in my iPad and a strap or two - no cables, etc.

I got in touch with iGig. They are releasing the G315 later this year. I may wait for that. With the Acacia the appeal of the iGig is in the gig pillow. Keeps the bass snug.

If you can find one of the now out of production Incase units, they even have a slot for a laptop.

My favorite, they walk the line between a case and gig bag.

I have other hard cases and gig bags, but my Reunion Blues Continental is the only one that leaves the house at this time, because it is the only one that makes me feel that the bass is truly safe physically. Following Kwesi's format, I would provide the following comments:

Reunion Blues Continental

-Average amount of storage (has one pocket that will hold a laptop and a few smaller pockets).
-Rigid
-Somewhat heavy (about 7 lbs.) it has an inner frame and lots of padding, so this should be expected.
-Well padded. I can't imagine needing more unless you plan on dropping your bass from a plane.
-Great "Zero G" handle (no pressure on your hand) and padded shoulder straps that stow in pockets.
-Attractive lining. Not a big deal to some, but I will take any compliment I can get (and I have gotten some for the way the interior looks).

If you ever get a chance at an Incase you'll find them to be second to none.
The main complaint I recall hearing on them was the price.

I see that Incase now has the Dub listed on the site, but can only find it when you do a search.

The RB is impressive, especially the video when they throw the guitar and case gets thrown off the roof and comes out unscathed. Before I decided on the iGig (and saw the vid where they ran over the guitar with a car) it was my front runner.

The upside is that they are absolutely waterproof though.

At the time I got my Mono I wasn't concerned about having a lot of storage. I wanted something LIGHT - and it is LIGHT. Love the bag. But now that I recently got an MB500 head, I wish it had a pocket I could slip that into. But it's still a nice bag that protects really well and, at least for my purposes, it has a reasonable amount of storage. But I can see how some would think there's too little.

Regarding the Reunion Blues, my instructor has one for his custom bass. When I talked to him about gig bags, he did his own re-enactment of the RB YouTube video. He put his bass back into the bag, threw it across the store, it bounced and tumbled across the floor, bounced into and off of the front window, and when he took it out the bass was fine. I'd never do that, even to a beater bass, but I was convinced that the DOES protect very well. He can also get a laptop in the front pocket, so it could probably hold a micro head too. But it's relatively heavy for a bag, comparable to one of my hard cases, and that's why I got the Mono.

I use a Mono and love it, but it could do with more storage space. I also use a MB LMIII that I bought a TC case for. I use the TC case that is made for their amp. This takes the LMII and a bunch of cables, tuner and stuff. All works well for me.

Now this is GREAT news! I've been waiting for them to re-release the G315 for ages. Lol, I don't need one but I definitely want one!
