What metal bands would you consider punk influenced? I would consider bands like Slayer and Anthrax to have a punk influence. Am I wrong? What other groups could fall into this category?

| | | | A lot of the early Thrash bands like Megadeth, Overkill, and Anthrax have a big Punk influence. Then there are Punk/Metal crossover bands like Suicidal Tendencies. |

And by "My War," Black Flag had gone from straight HC punk to more metal-ish.
It's a Sid Vicious Circle Jerk.

Like Superjoint Ritual and storm troopers of death. you hear tons of punky stuff with those guys. as far as a line I think punk is straight punk when its poppy. or something like that. thats a tuff question

| I saw Motorhead last November on the UK tour, they were outclassed musically by The Damned, ok Motorhead had all the volume but they have got no real tunes .
Girlschool were first on the line up, pretty good, The Damned were fantastic and should have headlined the bill not Motorhead IMO . |

(one of the members works the sound at a bar in Edinburgh IIRC, a drummer I'm jamming with was playing in a band with one of their old members a while back )
I'd say early Metallica shows some punk influences

| | | | First two Maiden albums(mostly the first) are full of punk influences, mostly due to D'Ianno singing style.

interesting that they came from there, their sound these days is about as far from punk as you can get, in terms of production, songwriting etc.
my list:
Nailbomb (bit industrial)
Fudge Tunnel
Tragedy (really just punk but what a sound)
Slayer
Brutal Truth
ooh lots actually. its a blurry line. Protest the Hero, though - nah |

| | | | DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN
There's a whole genre of music called metalcore which is supposed to blend influences of both. Unfortunately the genre can suck quite a lot at times because of the lesser genres of punk like emo being mixed into metal... But dillinger are a good one. Every Time I Die have made some decent albums as well. The Cancer Bats are apparently pretty good as well.
If you're feeling really extreme, try grindcore. Apparently it's influenced by both genres.
All punk ever really was was British people playing rock n roll fast and badly. So if you play a distorted guitar fast (even better if it's down tuned!), there's a good chance you'll be labeled as having punk influence. Even more mainstream bands like Nirvana (still love them) have been influenced by both, this is evident on their less popular records such as Bleach and In Utero. |
