Quality cart for urban gigging

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi Everyone !

I'm tired of flimsy carts which break, are not well balanced, have tiny wheels etc.

I'm looking for advice for my next cart purchase :

- Must have large wheels, for easy going up and down a couple steps.
- Must have a good distance between the wheels, for good balance.
- I use it with 1 or 2 Acme low B1s on it.
- Must be as light as possible.
- If possible, folds into a flat, easy to store format.
- Has a good system to lock stuff on it - no cheap, light elastic.

BONUS POINTS if a cart can somehow turn into a stool, but it's not mandatory.

I forgot to mention, this is for urban gigging, metro, train, bus etc...

Thanks in advance,

NL

Wesco Superlite

I use the Wesco Superlite. It holds up to 175 lbs and is light and folds up when not in use. It's also built quite well. I love my for hauling my gear. Here's a link to one from Amazon, but there are many sources for them.

There are several. Just do a search and you'll find some.

Here's one similar to what I use:

These also come highly recommended:

Thanks a lot guys

I'm looking at the Wesco, it seems to correspond to my needs. I'm wondering if anyone knows a good source for these in canada ? I could order of amazon.com but S&H will be about 70$, and then I'll have to pay Duty on top of that !

Thanks,

NL

I have one similar to the Wesco. I just looked at it to see what brand it is but couldn't find a brand name anywhere. Anyhow, it works great, capacity is 175 lbs., it weighs 11 lbs. and it has 8 1/2" wheels. The whole thing folds flat.

You may have to bite the bullet and order from the US. When I bought mine about 3 years ago I first called Club Bass in Toronto who advertised them at $125 Can but he was out of stock. I then found the exact same thing at Lee Valley Tools for $110 so bought that. Since then Club Bass doesn't seem to be able to get any more and I haven't seen it in the latest Lee Valley Tools catalogue I have. But call Lee Valley anyhow. They may still have a few somewhere in old stock.

I'd have no hesitation using mine to cart my Walkabout Scout with an accessory bag on top of the amp and bass in a gig bag over my shoulder for as far as I could walk. I've often carted mine for 4 city blocks over typical Toronto broken pavement with no problems. The large wheels make it a snap compared to the silly little casters on cabinets and dollies. It's pretty tough too. A few months ago I used mine to move a very heavy washing machine out of my basement to make room for a new one being delivered. The washing machine was a bit large but I still managed with no damage to the cart. It will easily handle a typical 4X10" sized cabinet and larger.

I suspect these are all made by the same company in Taiwan and sold under different brand names. Mine has a bunch of patent numbers on it but, as I said, no brand name visible.

I got one that is similar to the Wesco. I bought it at either Lowes or HomeDepot. Check at the Canadian version of those stores and they may have something similar.

Google is a great thing . . . there are Canadian dealers

I somehow managed to not see the dealers page on the wesco website earlier. I also have failed to find this specific model on their site. But I placed an order at lee valley - not the best price, but S&H + Duty would have largely surpassed it if I ordered in the USA.

Thanks for all your advice,

NL

I gotta say, I received this cart, and it does not dissapoint. It's heavy duty, solid, and the wheels are fantastic - a really smooth, easy ride.

Thanks to all,

NL
