Question about plugging

Sign in to disble this ad
I have always heard people saying its not good to plug a bass to an electric guitar amp or to equipment that isn't made for bass [like effects] or the opposite.
Is there something in it?

I don't ask about the sound, I'm asking about the gear's life, will it damage it?

Thanks Taish

bass guitar into guitar amps and effects are okay. in fact, some think guitar effects are better for bass than guitar and are better than some bass effects. guitar amps are fine to use, but usually do not have sufficient power. using guitar cabinets is risky. bass guitar is a full range instrument whereas a guitar's lower range is higher than the bass's fundamental frequencies. example: guitar speaker range = 400hz-15khz
bass speaker range = 70hz-15khz
you could easily blow a guitar speaker due to low bass guitar frequencies and poor power ratings.

I think the only places you have to be careful about plugging a bass into, is guitar speakers (can't usually handle low freq bass waves), small amature PA systems with small speakers and trying to drive bass amp sound levels.

you can try guitar effects with bass, some or most will probably work. I don't think you'll break any circuits.
