Question about selling equipment

Sorry is this is a dumb question. I was just wondering how other people handle this kind of situation.

Lets say I sell a piece of equipment to someone over the internet. I ship it and have it insured. During transit it is damaged. Who must assume the responsibility of collecting the insurance money? I figure the person who purchased the equipment must do this, since only they can verify the damage. But again, I am not sure. What is the rule here?

IIRC the shipper has to do it. You paid the shipping company and sprung for the insurance fee. Therefore, as far as the shipper is concerned, you're the customer, so you have to make the claim.

At least that's how it was when FedEx Ground trashed a computer for me a few years ago.

BTW, if I ever want to sell anything, I'm gonna shell out the 20 bucks and sell it on TB... at least a) It helps Paul run the site b) A fellow TB'er gets it and c) Someone I can trust gets it
