Question about SKB cases...

Is it easy to remove/modify the foam inside them? Trying to find a case for something large and pointy... I think modifying might be the best option if it will work.

one thing to consider - skb also makes other cases. i got 2 skb roller cases for golf bags, and i can fit 3 of my basses (7 and 8 strings, substantially larger than standard 4's) in their gig bags inside each. travelled with em by plane that way, too, worked great.

and apparently the guys at skb are golfers more than bassists, since the golf bag cases were substantially cheaper than similar cases for musical instruments.

Thanks john, I had a look at the golf ones but didn't see anything suitable. The golf ones are a bit funny shaped. It needs to be an ATA case btw.

I don't know about the ATA cases, but the foam (styrofoam) in the "regular" SKB cases isn't solid. I cut an SKB-44 to fit a Rickenbacker, and there were large voids in the foam. Substantial mods to fit a really odd shaped bass would probably be a problem.

That's the one I see most recommended for ATA bass use. It's a Golf case like what John mentioned.

Price is pretty good compared to the prices of other ATA cases and as long as you have a gig bag/can stuff some clothes in it-you'd be able to use it for different basses without getting the cutouts redone.

all the best.
