question if you wear a headset mic

i wanna get a wireless headset mic so i can have that freedom while i play. bass is already wireless... we run our own sound in a rock band ...since you cant "work the mic" by getting closer and further away how do you remedy this? sometimes i sing lead and sometimes backup, i need different volumes.... also i checked on the body pack of the system i'm interested in and was hoping to find a mute switch. momentary and full mute would be nice.... no deal. how do you communicate to bandmates without it coming full volume through the pa... ? never had a headset so any info would be appreciated .thanks. matt.

For muting you need a proco sign-off (aka "cough drop") - a foot pedal that mutes a mic signal. They're expensive for what they are, but they're good and solid.

As for adjusting your volumes - either do it on the desk on a per song basis, or sing more quietly?
