Question regarding Nickelback...

Sign in to disble this ad
So I was just going through my CD collection and ripping a bunch of albums onto my computer when I came across Nickelback's "The State". It reminded me of a time when I couldn't wait to put in this CD and listen to Nickelback. These days when I hear their new stuff on the radio I can't get to the dial fast enough to change it. But I just listened to "The State" and I still love it. SO I was just wondering if any of you other TB'ers feel the same way as I do about Nickelback? Does anyone else enjoy their earlier work?

I am also curious about how well-known their early work is in the USA. I am in Canada, and this album was pretty popular here. For those of you that don't know, The State came before Silver Side Up, before "How You Remind Me".

So if anyone has any thoughts on the subject... chime in!

Silver Side Up, How You Remind Me - that was their big break in the U.S. Nobody really knew about them before that I knew.

I've always liked their music, even their new stuff and especially if you get away from the radio songs. The radio songs are alright, but because they are overplayed they go from alright to bad in a lot of people's heads.

Your original post has several admissions in it that will severely hamper your bid for U.S. President.

I've never been a Nickleback fan but I can relate to having loved bands that became pale imitations of themselves once they hit mainstream.

I prefer their older stuff too... I think rockstar killed them. It was overplayed and when Nickelback realized mainstream music got them more fame, they stopped playing their older music and tried to do more mainstream stuff to get famous.

I was at a friends house, looking through his never played CD collection and came upon The State.

No lie, we took it outside and smashed it with a baseball bat.

Edit: Sorry if I didn't add anything to this topic.

I actually loved 'All The Right Reasons' album, but once you've got chavs playing 'Rockstar' on the back of the bus, you know the band has died. They had their time, then radio killed them in a bloody mess. If this ever happens to Opeth, however, I may just stop listening to music altogether.

As long as you don't hear about them changing their name to Opeth Mode, you'll be fine.
