| Questions for Montreal TB'ers

Hello Montreal TB members. I'm a native Nova Scotian who's been living and working in the US for many years, and am considering spending some extended time in Montreal. I've already been offered some great suggestions about neighborhoods to look for apartments in and the layout of the city from friends, but would love any tips about the music and arts scene, as it seems really great. Some some basic questions:
1. Any great bands, venues, studios, websites, local papers and magazines to check out. My musical tastes are all over the map, from jazz to classic rock to chamber music to metal to singer/songwriter types. Whatever, if it's good.
2. How does the inter-mingling of French and English musicians work out? Is there a crossover, or separate scenes? Right now I have pretty limited french as I studied it through high school, and am now intensively re-learning. Just curious about this cultural element.
3. Any tips on gaining employment, again, being not exactly bi-lingual (yet), but quasi-functional in french. For a bit of background, I have experience in software testing, studio and theater management, tons of gigging and teaching experience on both bass and guitar, and lots of odd-job skills. I'm not even one bit fussy about work, given the situation.
Anything else anyone feels like offering or suggesting will be very greatly appreciated.
