Quincy Jones quote

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all, I am a longtime bass player, but new member.

I am trying to track down a quote made by Quincy Jones to the effect of--rock and roll became rock and roll after the fender bass was invented.

Thanks in advance if anyone knows where this is from.

Okay, I'll do your searching for you.

First I found this in a bio;
Quote:
Jones' career spans the post-swing era of the late 40s to today's high tech, international multi-media hybrids. In the mid-SOs, he was the first popular conductor-arranger to record with a Fender bass, a period when the name Fender was equated only with the word "bass," rather than guitars in general, as it is today.

Here is the quote you are looking for from a speech that was given in Beijing on cultural diplomacy in China.

Quote:
Before the millennium, a number of us were asked what were the most important technological advances in our field during the 20th Century. My response was the Fender Bass.
Without it, there’d be no rock & roll or Motown. It’s the one technological breakthrough that changed American music forever... and affected music throughout the world.
Interesting stuff:
