Random observation about lyrics length

Sign in to disble this ad
While making lyrics cheat sheets for my bands, I couldn't help noticing that all the songs that I can't fit on one page are by hugely popular commercial singers - Lady Gaga, Shakira, Christina Aguilera etc. If it fits on half a page, odds are it's by someone much more artistically respectable (which is a polite way of saying "someone I don't like much") like Bjork or PJ Harvey, or it's an old jazz standard.

That's the total opposite of hip-hop, though, where a lot of underground stuff has verses over 100 bars that would take up two pages by themselves, and the most popular stuff tends to have shorter verses. So I'm not saying that the key to popularity is to have more words. I'm just relating a random observation.

Sometimes, when I pet my cat, he meows, gets up, and wants to eat.
But when he has finished eating he wants me to pet him again!

I'm not saying that there is some sort of feline eating-petting cycle. It's just a random observation.

Fact is that there is no ONE KEY to popularity.

Try it, though. You might like it. It's fun.

When I saw this thread, my first thought was, "I'd like to have sex with Jennifer Aniston." That's just a random reply.

Industries are full of people looking for the magic formula that will let them crank out successful products at will. Music is no different. Usually it involves trying to replicate somebody else's success.
