Why would you want that? It broke the first time he used it.

The Doc calls on the phone soon after and tells Marty, "You might not want to hook up to the amplifier, there's a slight possibility of overload." To which Marty casually responds, "I'll keep that in mind..." I think it just had an issue that the Doc hadn't gotten to yet.
