Realistic Drum Program

Sign in to disble this ad
Allo Talkbass, good afternoon.
No story really. I am the producer for my band (new-ish) and I was curious if any of you know of/use a drum program to create drums that sounds more like drums and less like a machine :/
Now, I use Guitar Pro to write the drums, export to MIDI and hope for the best. They sound alright but noticeably fake.

Thanks!
Ravyn

Also, if anyone can redirect me to a thread that already exists, that would work too.
I searched and only found things marginally related.

Acoustica Beatcraft is what I use, it's pretty cheap. I'm sure the drums sound more realistic than Guitar Pro.

As MNAirHead said, there are numerous programs that sound real but they usually cost more than $100.

Try these threads:

What is the best software based drum machine?

Drum Machine Software

Those links are in the Recording Gear and Equipment section's FAQ.

I am of the firm opinion that such a thing (good sounding fake drums) does not exist.

The best I've found, is EZdrums, by Toontrack. Try it, I'd almost given up on good (or even reasonable) sounding digital drums until i came about this program. There's all these versions too, one for metal, one for pots-and-pans-style and so on.

Try Hydrogen, as it's free.

You found Hydrogen satisfying? It is free and works like a charm, but it sound horrible. Mine would crash everytime I tried to add new drumsounds though, so if that works, you could get it to sound better.

I'm convinced we've all heard bass and drums that were computers we did not know wre fake.

Much of it is in the programmer.

Many are great these days, but
Easy - great for practice - Band In a Box with RealDrums
http://pgmusic.com/

Steep learning curve - but incredibly realistic - fire the drummer level product.

New samples are key. I'm surprising you didn't get it to work, I did with minimum difficulty and I'm running (gasp) Vista.

I had a "special" version of Ezdrums today. Got rid of it because the keygen wouldn't work; although, I cannot complain about free things.

I don't know of any in particular, but I know they exist. They use actual sampled sounds of real drums, and include multiple samples of each drum to simulate nuances of hitting drums in different ways/angles/pressure. Most modern electronic drum pads are sensitive to how hard you hit them and where you hit them.

I just got David Jones complete drum tracks from MF.
It was on "the stupid deal of the day" a few months ago. $4.99
REAL drum tracks recorded in a studio by a real drummer...It is broken down into parts, and you can "drag or drop" them to your recording software
(intro,bridge, chorus, ending, etc.)
Very well recorded. You can use your software to speed up or slow-down.

The ReDrum section of Reason is powerful, easy to use and can make some pretty darn realistic drum tracks if you are willing to put in the time - it can take a lot of tweaking with velocity, tone, adding reverb etc. You would probably want to expand its package of acoustic drumkits, too.

lots of acoustic drum loops to play with in garageband too!

I would say Addictive Drums by http://www.xlnaudio.com/ is by far the best drum program out there.

Lots of, and very realistic, samples and a nice eq/fx section.

Easy programmable, but has to be used as a plug-in (vst,au or rtas). Will not work as a standalone unit.
