Rear mounts for rack equipment

Sign in to disble this ad
Hiya,

Soon I'm hopefully going to be compiling a rack. I've read (possibly on here) that rack equipment can 'twist' at the front. Is there a way I can use something to prevent this (rear mounts or something)?

Any help would be appreciated.

TIA

I'm no expert on this, but use a case that's just the right size, and use rubber feet of varying sizes in between pieces in the back of the rack to keep everything tight.

If the rack is handled carefully instead of abused, you shouldn't have a problem.

Abuse it, and you'll know.

...Or hand it to Air France, or any other carrier for that matter...and they'll abuse it.

Unless the case is floated, I've had them twist up stuff...not so bad that it wasn't usable, but it wasn't very pretty.

ask the company that made the rack if they have 'em. I bought a 4u rack case (SKB) and they sent me the rear rails for free.

Or if it's a custom rack (as mine was) I could add rear rails for $10.

I did this because of fans mostly.

I don't use them for effects and such. For amps, especially multiple amps in one case (or when using weaker materials like SKB racks) I use them... for amps only. Your typical effects and processors aren't heavy enough to do any real damage with normal use.

If you need them, get some angle iron and make your own, cheap.

I have access to a welder, so I welded nuts on the holes to make it easier to bolt/unbolt.

Another option is blocks of 2x4's cut to fit between the amps so that they won't be able to flex.

Hey,

Cheers for your replies.

For the rear rails, do you just screw them in similar to the front?

hey ive got a question relating to this one and i figured why not conserve and not open another thread...im an environmentalist what can i say

um, i have a gk backline 600 head, and it doesnt have the things that stick out from the side on the front of it that i believe you use for rackmounting, but can it still be rackmounted???

it had 2 screw holes on either side of the head, and i was wondering if these could be used instead,

Those screw holes (without seeing them) are probably there for the purpose of mounting rack ears.
