Reasons for only listing a bass for trade

Curious, what are the reasons for listing a bass as trade only and not for sale?

Would it be rude to inquire if someone would outright sell a bass that was listed FT?

Say you bought a US jazz, you played it and you decided you dont like it anymore and you freind has a US p bass and you like that better, and he wants a US Jazz bass.Then you trade

A reason would probably be that if the buyer wanted cash... he'd just buy a bass with it.
