Recommendations? / European Metal

Hey Guys - Lately I've been getting into Kamalot and Lacuna Coil, and was wondering if you people can recommend any other similar bands that have that distinctive European sound/overtones?

^ Thanks

Not a popular subject I guess - I thought some of you people from across the pond might chime in. No other medieval sounding metal?

Hail Solarmist!

Your post is the one that's gotten me to finally de-lurk and register.

Based on the two bands you mentioned, my initial recommendations would be Epica (start with the Divine Conspiracy), Nightwish (start with Oceanborn) and Blind Guardian (start with Nightfall in Middle Earth).

There's many more recommendations I could make if you could give me some more details. What is it about the two bands you mentioned that you find appealing? Vocals, tempo, guitar lines, melodic ideas, etc.

I'm interested in your thoughts on the bands I mentioned.

^ They both (especially Kamalot) have a sound, and feel that I wood describe as a European style sound (maybe partially orchestrated? slightly goth? not sure if that's the correct description).
Ghost Opera & The Great Pandemonium would be examples of that sound as would Our Truth from Lacuna Coil (mostly Cristina's vocal work on that one). I don't know quite how to put it into words, but it's clearly a different sound compared to American metal. I also like a band named Entwine, but haven't heard much.

Thanks for the ones you mentioned - I'll check them out.
