Im not sure what you mean by music "bed". They really only need one track to use.
If I were to do it, I think Id come up with a few different variations and sell them the track which they feel is best suited for their use.

Well, I think if someone were to use the one track in just one video the product isnt necessarily overpriced at $100/year.
To be honest though, I have no idea about pricing a license to use a song.
I am using Sonar because it goes with the interface, but it is probably overkill.

Yeah $100 per year isn't bad at all, even $300-400 annually is reasonable for this IMO, really it is a single subject broken down into 100 parts for easier referencing. But over $10,000 per year for parts videos is hard to justify, it just adds a nice touch to the information and isn't necessary.

I agree with the posts that the company should pay for whatever gear you don't have that you need to do the music.

Also, try to learn as much of the recording software as you can on their dime. You say you've not recorded your own material in a few years so obviously the need's not come up until the company asked you to do something for them.

I'd say the experience of doing the music for a vid and learning how to operate some recording program on their time is good pay for what you're talking about, and again, under those contraints of time and effort.

Offer to do the work on your own time for a one time fee and guarantee of ownership without licensing and try to keep that fee in line with your salary plus overtime, plus maybe a little more because it brings something to the company that you didn't previously contribute.

Either that or offer to do the work on the clock at your base salary with the same conditions so long as it won't put you in the weeds as far as other work projects go.

By doing either of these you're offering the employer a way out of paying licensing fees, making a little money or getting to do what you love for a fair wage for a bit and still not indicating that music is an occupation that deserves no pay. If not a lot of time worth of music is necessary they shouldn't have any issue making this concession and their legal department should be able to draw up an IP agreement for very little money for the work, just make sure you have it looked over yourself before signing to ensure that the scope of the IP rights contract is only for work performed expressly for the company.

I already own any gear that would be necessary.

I think the biggest issue with me learning the recording software and recording the music on the companys time may interfere with other projects I have going on right now.

This may be a workable solution as well.
