Recording tracks for TV???

Sign in to disble this ad
I have an opportunity over the next few months to do tracking for a music buyer for TV/Film tracks. This is mostly jazz, with a lot of bass guitar.

I'm curious if there's anything specific (tone-wise) that works really well for TV tracks? Something that makes mixing it easy? There will be some bass solos (all written by the composer), so I want it to be easily mixed for TV. I'll be using P and J basses, and quite a bit of fretless. I have some great sounding 5-strings, but I'm not sure if those are as good an option. I'm also unsure if I should go strictly passive, or use an outboard preamp (I have some options there, too).

I'm really looking for advice from those who've actually done this kind of work. This is my first foray into it, and I certainly hope it's not my last! I've done some album work and that's usually easy enough. I just want to make sure I'm not a problem when it comes to mixing for TV and film.
