Recovering from hand/finger injuries

I'm looking for advise and suggestions. A couple of weeks ago, in a very freak incident, I tore ligaments and tendons in my middle and ring fingers on my left hand. Before the flaming begins, YES I have been to the doctor, in fact the ER brought in a hand specialist for a consult. I have had a couple of sessions of Physical Therapy so far and they say I have about another month or so left. I have also been wearing splint. Obviously my playing has diminished to almost nothing. I can fret the strings with my index and pinky without any significant problems, however any attempt to use my middle or ring finger produces significant discomfort. Has anyone else suffered a hand injury and if so what did you do to get back? I have asked the hand doctor to check into anything that I can do to specifically rehabilitate my hand for playing. I have done some research on my own as well and I am wondering about some of the products out there for finger strengthing like the grip master.

Get a doctor's order to start up some Occupational Therapy. They might be able to help you more with the fine motor stuff needed for bass and get you on track to getting back to normal without hurting yourself worse. I'd stay away from the finger weights and the like until you get clearance for it.

Good luck!
