Rediscovering Music

Sign in to disble this ad
Im sure this happens to everyone, out of the blue you stick on an old CD or vinyl, that you havent listened to in ages, and instantly love it again!

Whats your latest rediscovery in the dusty pile of music in the corner?

Mine was finding one of my Sam & Dave CDs "Southern Soul" , which i gave my dad a loan off, its soooooooo good

Bold - Looking Back

I haven't listened to a lot of hardcore in the last 10 years and this was one of my favorite records back in the day. Seems to have held up well.

EDIT: Just realized the irony of the album name with respect to this thread!

Haven't listened to it in, like, 10 years. Put it on last night... wow! There's some great stuff on that album. Those guys really can play.

I saw a posting at Powerlineblog.com with a "Freddies Dead" link at You Tube. I went there and indulged "The Pusherman". So simple, yet so good.

Funny, we're covering; Roadhouse Blues by the Doors. When it came time for me to solo (guitar) I played a solo I heard in a Credence song. I love CCR.

Dug out Paul McCartney's "Ramm" album. Brought back a lot of memories.

You can never go wrong with Todd. I've found myself rediscovering old music, and finding new music in the past few years.
I've dug out my old West, Bruce and Laing albums, and have been on a Humble Pie binge lately. Along with that, I'm getting into Deerhoof, Interpol (although their sound wears on you quickly), Social Distortion and Muse. Old Yes comes out regularly - like Going For the One or Relayer. Just picked up Uriah Heep Live on CD.

One truly great and defining rediscoveries for me was a CD I got free with donkey kong country on the super nintendo back in 1994 when I was ten. I used to listen to that CD a lot when I got the game (probably my only CD at the time !) But I was sometime into learning the guitar and I found the CD and gave it a spin. It must of been a good few years since I last listened to it. I heard a song on it and just thought "hey! thats an acoustic guitar playing that intro, I never realised that before"

Where's before in my non music days I was just hearing music as one big wall of sound, suddenly I was able to distinguish parts of the song. The guitar, the drums it's component pieces. It was the start of a deeper understanding of music for me and showed me how learning an instrument had broadened my horizons.

I can't remember the song now I don't even know where that CD is. But it was just that moment of realization that stuck with me. I guess it wasn't so much rediscovering but rather discovering.
