Regaining the drive?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys,

I guess this has been happening slowly for quite a while, but im just loosing the drive to play bass these days. Only play at all when im at band practice, and i know its having an impact on my overall abilities.

Im just out of fresh things to try, everything is just seeming a bit stale right now if you know what i mean?

Anyone have any suggestions, or good technique/playing books you'd recommend?

I think this happens to everybody at some point. I'm kind of going through that right now. For me its partly because of the Holiday season. I'm trying not to let it get to me but it seems to be making everyone around me insane (my wife does retail sales. I receive inventory at a music store so I have to deal with a lot of piss-y salesmen). Also winter in this part of the country is dark, dreary and cold which doesn't help motivation either.

My band mates are all heading out of town until mid January, so I have decided to just stop playing for a little while. You can't force it if its not there.

I also find that getting inspired by music or film or art can really jump-start things. Either going back to a group you haven't listened to in a while or discovering something new.

Take a break if you can. It will come back. Good luck!

Taking a break from it is going to happen regardless, whats pushed it over the edge this year has just been the work load at uni, final year and all that

Take a small break and buy a few cd's which you consider a "risk" as to wether or not you might like them. The ones you do dig will inspire you to play again!
