Regarding electric guitar, starting out

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey TB, I'm planning on buying a guitar in a month or two (pretty much set on an Agile Telecaster Thinline copy) for fun and use as a learning tool. The issue I have is...what should I do about my amp situation?

I have a Hartke HA3500 and Hartke 410XL cab. After selling most of my pedals, I'm left with a Way Huge Pork Loin (soft OD), compressor and broken Devi Ever Shoe Gazer. Obviously I could just run the guitar through this, but I kind of want to get something more suited to it -- to be frank, I'm not sure if using my bass rig will castrate the guitar sound. I'm wondering if I should get a cheaper guitar amp or maybe something like a POD.

I have no interest in lead playing, it would be more rhythm-style. Sometime in the future I'd like to use it in some kind of shoegaze/dream pop thing. What amp do you think would be best suited to this? Again, looking for something on the cheaper side (talking in the $200 range) but also something that will last me a while.

Thanks.

Try what you have first

Back when I had both guitar and bass rigs around, I did about 50% of my guitar playing through the bass rigs. I would try with the rig you have now and experiment. You may get what you want and not have to spend any more money. If after trying your current rig you still want a guitar amp, there will be plenty out there for you to buy. No shortage of good guitar amps used or new.

Peace,
S
