Anyone here rent rehearsal space? I was thinking about checking out Music Lab here in Austin, Tx. Has anyone ever been there? Has anyone ever rented rehearsal space in general? Should i just go and find someones empty basement?

Should I just blow the lid off of my apartment?

My band shares the rental on a space with 3 other bands and it seems to work out alright - I guess it all depends how frequently you and the other bands are planning to rehearse. Our space isn't huge, but big enough for 2 or 3 drum kits (currently there are two kits, both shared between 2 bands).. my band rehearses once or twice a week, as does the other band we split our rent with, and the other two bands each rehearse once a week, though they have the option of the other free slots as well.

Works out pretty good.. total we pay $400, split 4 ways, so $100 per band, which in my case works out to about $33.00 per person.

We were practicing in our drummer's parent's laundry room before, but having an actual, official rehearsal space opens up possibilities and just let's you really cut loose as a band - if you want to develop your music, I say you gotta take the plunge and find a good space..
