Exclamation Repercussions of sanding off serial number?

Sign in to disble this ad
So I was planning on sanding my J bass neck and oiling it myself tto make it smoother than the cheap finish on it. My dad was sanding while I was in the bathroom and sanded the headstock as well. Now I have no serial number. When I bought it, I didn't get any kind of insurance so I wouldn't need it for that, but is there anything else I may need it for?

Other than proving authenticity, (if it gets stolen, or you're trying to sell it and need proof that it's a fender) you don't need it. My ibby and my strat both went through the same ordeal so I put my name in the neck pockets with a sharpie.

ROFLMAO!! wait, wait, wait!! (my stomach hurts and my eyes are watering)
Is this the same dad that was all over you about modding your basses? The one who told you "if it aint broke, don't fix it"?
I'm sorry...it's just funny that after all that ball busting, HE'S the one that made a mistake on it.

It's great that we can relive our formative years through Smiley's life adventures.

Yep. After all the work I've done on my basses, issue free, give him sandpaper and two minutes alone with my bass and he manages to lose the serial number. I had to laugh at it too

Although as someone pointed out on the other thread, working on it together at least brought us closer
