I recently rescued a EBMM from a guy who had it in a closet & was about to put it up into his attic (or loft, if you like!) without a case or gigbag!!!!.
It was rarely played & I was shocked that such a great instrument was so badly treated.
When you think of all the bass player's without enough cash to buy a decent bass & then this is just lying around
I was wondering what other hidden gems people have discovered?

Really nice looking bass there. Are you keeping it? Refurbishing it? Selling it?

Going to sell it to a local shop. Mainly cos I'm a lefty!
I'd love to have a lefty version but I'm waiting on a G&L L2000 from Marley's Ghost to arrive any day now.

He gave it to me!
His girlfriend & my girlfriend know each other & I was painting their apartment.
Was clearing out the bedroom before painting & there it was.
I asked him who the bass player was. He said his brother gave it to him years ago cos he wanted to learn but never got round to it.
He was throwing stuff into the attic & asked me if I had any use for it?
Even if I had 100 of them at home I wouldn't have let him put it in a cold, damp attic.
I even offered him a big discount on the painting but he said the bass was a bonus for starting the job so soon!
Sweeeeet.
Why am I a lefty!!!!!!!!!!!

Didn't realise people would prefer the 2EQ.....interesting.

Didn't realise people would prefer the 2EQ.....interesting. | Many people aren't even aware the two band is out there. Even fewer people have tried one. Less than 3% of current production rolls off the line with the 2 band EQ. Frankly, you're not going to find a new one unless you special order it, pretty much.
The two band preamp has a lower treble frequency and a higher bass frequency. Less control? Yes. Different control? Yes. I prefer the frequency centers of the two band much more.

Cool. I'm all for less knobs whatever the reason.
Don't mess around with tone much once I start playing, I probably should though.......

It has been sitting there for over 20 years. All the original case candy, perfect finish. I don't think it has ever been played. I got to see it once, the action was a mile high from sitting for so long but he won't let me fix it, or even buy it from him

It's bad enough to have a great instrument not played but when it's actually getting damaged from neglect..........argh!
Won't he even let you get it setup professionally?
I recommend putting a Squier in his case & moving to a different town.

He's taking a bass up to the guy I'm trading to, and I took the bass over to his house before he left. The thought crossed my mind "I could totally just leave with that bass in this case...no no, can't do that. be good."

I was hoping for stories of beat up 1960's Jazz Basses being found at garage sales.
Guess I should be pleased that more good gear isn't getting treated like crap!

He plays guitar and doesn't play bass. I asked if he'd be interested in selling and he said no, for nostalgic reasons (Mike Watt's signature is on it somewhere). |

| | Registered User Endorsing Artist: Black Diamond & Sensicore strings | | Join Date: Nov 2000 Location: Iowa City, Iowa | | | A guy (unknown at the time, now a friend) gave me an Ampeg V-6B 2x15 cab that he was going to throw away. It just needed the tolex stuck back down in some spots and the speakers remounted to eliminate some air leaks. Huge cab but nice.
I bought a Bassman 100 for it, and the friend said he might have another one in his garage that he'd fried. It turned out he threw it away....but...he did find a Bassman 50 that he was going to toss. He said he'd bought it for $35 in high school from a friend and it wasn't very loud. New tubes and tube sockets, a couple of resistors and some new caps...it's fine. And I did the work myself as a learning project.
Put the Bassman 50 and the Ampeg 215 together and it's a nice rig that's louder than it should be. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
